I started this piece less than a week ago, and I have been crazy painting, almost obsessively painting in less than a week, long sessions, that I couldn’t step away from. The image that inspired this art work is below, and it belongs to an artist friend. I’d been studying it for a while, and to be honest, I’d started painting and realized I had forgotten to get permission to use the photo as a reference. It is one of those images that I’ve not been able to forget about, one of those pieces that even before I started working on the art, stuck with me. It even disrupted my sleep with some weird dreams. As soon as it was finished, that night, I slept the sleep of the artistically exhausted. My artist friends will understand.

Peace, Valerie
I have seen many storms in my life. Most storms have caught me by surprise, so I had to learn very quickly to look further and understand that I am not capable of controlling the weather, to exercise the art of patience and to respect the fury of nature. ~Paulo Coelho
