I read once that the fleur de lis is associated with motherhood, specifically, the Virgin Mary, and divine birth. When I created this piece, a friend was pregnant. Watching the transition to her, both mentally and physically, inspired me to create this work. This is a textural piece, and it is the only way I could envision incorporating the elements I wanted to convey in the work.
I’ve held on to this piece since 2014 when it was created.
