I am working on this piece new sunflower piece. I am discovering how to layer my acrylics to create a richer deeper look.. Acrylic viscosity tends to be disappointing (for me) and a bit flat looking after it dries. Even when using heavy body and professional grade quality paints, I find myself not wholly satisfied. But, Creating layers of under painting is helping to overcome and achieve that richer look and depth in the overall appearance in my pieces. I am especially finding this to be true with this sunflower work in progress.
I use gel medium to transfer the images (read more on this technique on this Golden paint supply link) from paper onto the canvas. It gives you an uninterrupted appearance while adding a unique look or pattern in my work. This is not a new technique and can also be translated into crafty projects. A simple example is transferring photography adhered to wood. Also, tissue/napkins are another user friendly arterial to use. (I used some here too).
