If you’d asked me how I define success twenty years ago or today my answers would differ, greatly. I imagine the same would be true for any one of us. Time, place and circumstances all play important rolls. I stumbled upon a quote that has me pausing and considering my own accomplishments…..
Time: the funny way in which moments of our life keeps slipping by silently and seemingly ever quickly. What once was of huge importance and significance, is suddenly tomorrow transient and meaningless.
Place: A moment or point in our life.
Circumstance: The events, that when added together, that are the summation of ourself.
What then are they? Successes. Those things that when we are no more, that truly matter when we or others reflect on, or take account our life. I believe I’d like for mine to read something similar to RWA’S quote below.
What is success?
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded!
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
What are your successes?
