…and eventually the law of averages tip to your side.”
I recently read this sentence in a blog post by Jim Livingston, and I’ve shared the link to his post below. I feel his comments have value, merit and impacted my artistic thinking afterwards. Hopefully it resonates with you as well.
Most of us try to look for the positives in our careers, lives, art, music, or whatever. As 2019 quickly approaches, I (we) feel a need do an accounting of successes against the negatives. Some years my (our) scales will tip towards win, and other years, not so much. Then, there are the times it seems as if nothing has wavered in any direction. I think I find these years the most frustrating and hardest to grasp. But through time, I have learned to appreciate them all- the small steps…skips…leaps and when to paddle like mad to in order to tread water. It is during these times that I find I am forced to accept, change, or work harder!
As the book on Valerie Dowdy Art in 2018 closes, I am satisfied with where I am and having made it to another New Year’s Eve. I am grateful for the periods of creativity (and this year has been an exceptional one) that lead me to new developments in my work. I am begrudgingly ok with the back-sets, through them I learned to persevere and keep painting. I am so thankful for support, encouragement and love of my art from family, friends and patrons. Thanks to you, who unwaveringly ride the flow of time, paint and brushes with me.
PEACE, VALERIE
